KINGMAN - Kingman, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City, Colorado City and Mohave County will share $555,111 in Local Transportation Assistance Funds.
A news release from the Western Arizona Council of Governments states the funds are generated from a formula that distributes a portion of Powerball revenues and they must be used exclusively for transit services. Based on population, the total award amounts are $196,171 to Mohave County, $157,749 for Lake Havasu, $112,802 to Bullhead, $76,343 for Kingman, and $12,044 to Colorado City. Transit services in Kingman, Bullhead and Lake Havasu are expected to provide about 400,000 transit trips in 2007. Those municipalities will use 100 percent of their award amounts to support public transit services. Mohave County will use a portion of its allotment to support public transit in the three larger municipalities in the form of operating grants. City transit operations are providing services to several unincorporated areas of the county. Mohave County will use the balance of its fund allotment to support senior transportation in such rural locales as Dolan Springs, Meadview and Golden Shores. This year's statewide distribution of LTAF-II was about $18 million due to very large Powerball jackpots. The state Department of Transportation is projecting a much lower distribution amount in 2007. |
